Through the Shifting the Power Coalition, ActionAid is working with our local partner Hauskuk Initiative in Papua New Guinea to respond to the landslide emergency.
Our partner, Hauskuk Initiative, is working with local women’s networks in the affected region and the Provincial Disaster Management Office to coordinate a response to this devastating landslide, which is expected to have killed over 2000 people and has destroyed entire villages. We are particularly concerned over the protection risks facing women and girls affected by displacement — given the high risk of violence and land-related conflict. There is an urgent need for shelter, safety and dignity for those who have survived the humanitarian emergency.
The Shifting the Power Coalition brings together 12 women-led organisations in the Pacific, and the regional Pacific Disability Forum to promote Pacific women’s leadership in humanitarian action.
Donations of $2 and over are tax deductible. Contributions to ActionAid Australia are directed to our critical program work wherever it is needed to stand with people facing injustice globally. Such unrestricted general donations give us the ability to direct funds where the needs are greatest.
