Demand government action to ensure Australian mining companies uphold women’s rights. Australia has one of the largest mining footprints in the world, and women are disproportionately impacted - including by fossil fuel extraction. Without greater regulation, women’s rights are at risk.
We campaign in solidarity with women around the world who are impacted by the activities of Australian corporations and government policies, supporting their efforts to transform power structures and drive alternatives. Read about some of our wins here!
A win for climate justice!
In 2017, we won our campaign to stop Australian Government agency, Efic, from funding a proposed Australian-run coal mine in South Africa that would undermine women’s rights.
In June 2018, a team of ActionAid Australia activists from around the country descended on Parliament House with real life ‘watchdogs’ to meet with 18 MPs and Senators. Together they amplified the call for a human rights watchdog that would ensure justice for women in mining-affected communities.
ActionAid Australia works with our growing activist network to hold decision-makers to account and ensure that Australia is fulfilling its responsibility to uphold the rights of women everywhere. The activist network is driven by a dedicated group of volunteers who organise events and campaign actions, bring new people into the movement, and build their leadership skills along the way.
Are you passionate about campaigning for women’s rights? Do you want to engage your local community to stand with women around the world fighting injustice and inequality? Sign up to become a volunteer!
