Come along to our webinar ‘Nike – Just Do It for Women’s Rights!’ on Tuesday 5 October at 5pm AEDT.

Nike is failing to step up support for the women garment workers in Cambodia who help them make billions of dollars in profits year after year.

Major investors will meet for Nike’s Annual General Meeting on 6 October. The lead up to this event is a crucial opportunity for our community to tell Nike to ‘just do it’ and step up its commitment to workers making their clothes and shoes.

Join us for a special webinar featuring local and international advocates on garment worker rights. You’ll hear about the situation on the ground and learn what we can do in Australia. We’ll also take collective action on social media to get Nike to do the right thing in the lead up to its important investor meeting!

Where: Zoom
When: Tuesday 5 October, 5pm-6.15pm AEDT

Meet the speakers:

Yang Sophorn is the President of the Cambodian Alliance of Trade Unions, an independent trade union federation working in Cambodia’s textile and manufacturing industries which represents workers at more than twenty companies across Cambodia. Sophorn has been actively involved in Cambodia’s labour movement for more than 20 years since first being elected as a local union leader in a factory in Phnom Penh.

Anne Bienias is the Living Wage Coordinator at Clean Clothes Campaign based in Amsterdam. Anne will speak to the global #PayYourWorkers and #RespectLabourRights Campaign calling on Nike to take responsibility for the workers who make their clothes, paying them what they’re owed.

Julian Hill was elected as the Member for Bruce in the Australian Parliament in July 2016. Before becoming an MP, Julian was the youngest ever Mayor of Port Phillip Council and has held senior positions within the Victorian Public Service. Julian is an advocate for labour rights and has called on Nike to help resolve the Violet Apparel workers’ claims.
