The research was commissioned by ActionAid Australia and the Shifting the Power Coalition – a coalition of 13 women’s rights organisations in the Pacific working to advance women’s leadership in disaster management and climate change action
This new research finds that Pacific women-led early warning systems increase women’s access to critical information and strength their capacity to prepare for and respond to disasters. These systems increase women’s voice and decision-making power in disaster planning and response, enabling them to lead community resilience. These systems also work with government mechanisms to strengthen inclusive early warning, ensuring that no one is left behind. Investing in gender equality and women’s warning systems demonstrates that women women’s local leadership is invested in, there is greater inclusive disaster resilience, and that these systems must be scaled to ensure no one is left behind.
