In 2021, The World Risk Report identified Vanuatu as the number 1 country in the world with this highest disaster risk. Vanuatu faces rising sea levels, increasingly regular cyclones and other disasters such as earthquakes.
Traditionally, women in Vanuatu have been excluded from decision making and policy setting, experience violence, and have limited access to financial independence. These inequalities would be further exacerbated in times of crisis.
ActionAid established the Arise Fund to directly support women’s leadership in preparing for and responding to climate change and crisis.
