Each year, the ActionAid team comes together on January 26 to listen, reflect and renew our commitment to First Nations justice – and we invite you to do the same. For First Nations communities, January 26 is a day of truth-telling, a day of survival, and a day of protest.
It is an annual reminder of the invasion of this country, the dispossession of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and their ongoing survival and resilience in the face of racism and injustice.
ActionAid acknowledges the ongoing impacts of colonisation for First Nations communities across this country, and we are proud to stand with First Nations people who have long protested the celebration of January 26.
A day to remember, to reflect, and to act
Last year, Treaty was made with First Nations People in Victoria for the first time in this country. It was a historic moment that enables First Nations People across the State to lead decision-making processes that affect their communities, culture and Country.
In 2026, ActionAid will continue to support Treaty and truth-telling processes in NSW and across the country. At a time when we’re witnessing a rise in white supremacy and racism, we will raise our voice for an end to the systemic violence and injustice experienced by First Nations people.
We must continue to show our nation’s leaders that we want to see continued commitment to the aspirations of First Nations people —Treaty, truth-telling, and self-determination.
Together, we will continue to strive for justice.
