We welcome Australia’s recognition of Palestine. However, the Government has a moral and legal obligation to do more to prevent further atrocities against Palestinians, and to avoid complicity in the war crimes Israel is committing.
Last week, the United Nations Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and Israel, found that Israel is responsible for the commission of genocide in Gaza.
Israel has repeatedly, illegally and systematically, prevented humanitarian access to Gaza. Israel has blocked aid crossings, allowing almost no aid to enter Gaza since the start of March 2025. It has created preventable famine-level conditions that are putting millions of lives at risk.
Right now, the Israeli military is intensifying its attack on Gaza City, with high rise apartments under relentless bombardment. Palestinians are being forcibly displaced, once again, with nowhere safe to go.
Palestinians have a right to live freely and with dignity.
The international community’s support for the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state based on justice, equality, and the will of the Palestinian people is essential.
However, words are not enough.
We will continue to demand that Australia moves beyond mere rhetoric and takes urgent action towards a political solution that ends Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestine, lifts the blockade on Gaza, and respects Palestinian right to self-determination.
Add your name to our letter to Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, asking him to take action for the Palestinian people.
