Why do we need feminist, climate justice?
The climate crisis is an existential threat to humanity that is driving unimaginable devastation for women and communities on frontlines of climate disasters and rising seas, from the Torres Strait to Vanuatu to Kenya. As global temperatures surpass the 1.5°C target, Australia continues to approve new fossil fuel projects and remains the second biggest exporter of fossil fuel emissions.
We know that those least responsible for the climate crisis are bearing the brunt of its consequences, while the very wealthiest continue to exacerbate the problem. Communities in the Global South are disproportionately affected, particularly women. While women lead transformative climate action for their communities, they are now also paying the price of climate destruction.
To truly address the climate crisis, we must shift the power to women-led climate action, as women continue to be the centre of driving community-led responses to climate change.
What can I look forward to?
During the Feminist Climate Academy, you’ll learn effective campaigning and lobbying and deepen your knowledge on guiding feminist principles when taking action for climate.
- Be the change: The Feminist Climate Academy supports you in being an agent of change and taking action on climate. Your efforts will contribute to a more inclusive, just, and sustainable world.
- In-depth knowledge: Informative sessions led by experts within the sector on climate, the role of gender, and in-depth insights into the role of inequality in the climate crisis and how these two topics are inextricably linked.
- Practical skills: Knowledge alone isn’t enough. Through advocacy and campaigning training, you’ll develop the tools and strategies needed to create a feminist and climate-just world, and you’ll immediately put these new skills into practice.
- Community and Networking: Join a vibrant community of like-minded individuals, expand your network at home and abroad, and work together to drive impactful change.

The fine print
ActionAid Australia will cover catering, but not travel expenses to Sydney. This training is designed for those able to attend in-person, in Sydney, on Gadigal land.
Can’t attend the training? You can also join our ongoing Activist Network to attend multiple online trainings over the year, and join likeminded communities across Melbourne and Sydney. If you’re from Canberra, don’t hesitate to join – things are incoming!
Out of state? Don’t worry – we hope to run a virtual Feminist Climate Justice Academy later in the year.
