This was one of the key messages from our Shifting the Power Coalition event at Oceania Connect 2020 as Michelle Higelin joined in conversation with Anne Pakoa, Ramona Tugaga and Sharon Bhagwan Rolls. Together they highlighted how Coalition partners are demonstrating feminist collaboration and strengthening local and national networks so that diverse women can develop and lead efforts to drive protection of their rights in crisis.
“We are finding ways to empower more young women to learn about commitments to their participation in decision making. Together we are calling for greater intersectional accountability to our rights as women of all diversities including women with disabilities.”
The Shifting the Power Coalition event highlighted how the Coalition is contributing to movement building and engagement in new spaces in the Pacific, as a unique women–led mechanism that draws on the capacity of the coalition members to enhance diverse women’s leadership in the response to climate change and disasters using a women’s rights and feminist approach.
