A 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck south-western Haiti at around 8.30am local time on Saturday 14 August 2021.

ActionAid’s emergency teams are on the ground assessing urgent needs and preparing to respond.

With hundreds injured and at least 1200 dead, the death toll is rising as local search and rescue efforts get underway.

Please donate now.

This earthquake was higher in magnitude than the 2010 earthquake that killed hundreds of thousands of people, and aftershocks continue to be felt.

The earthquake is the latest disaster to hit the country which is already affected by political instability, food insecurity, Covid-19 and the hurricane season. A one-month state of emergency has been declared by the national authorities.

ActionAid Haiti’s network of women trained as first responders during emergencies are set to provide emergency relief, including first aid and support for women and girls at risk of gender-based violence in areas of Haiti most affected by the deadly earthquake.

Your donation could provide:

  • Cash support/Food support to meet essential food and shelter needs for affected families.
  • Non-Food Items (NFIs) such as blankets, pillows, hygiene and dignity kits and kitchenware as needed.
  • Protection services to ensure women and girls are safe
  • Psychosocial support for traumatised children and their families.

We urgently need your help. Please donate now.
