Australia’s export credit agency has ruled out funding Woodside's disastrous billion-dollar oil and gas project in Senegal!

Australian Government agency Export Finance Australia has ruled out funding for Woodside’s disastrous billion-dollar oil and gas project in Senegal!

It’s a win for women and the climate. And we couldn’t have done this without the thousands of ActionAid supporters who signed our petition and spread the word on social media so this proposed loan to Woodside wouldn’t fly under the radar.

And together with our partners at Jubilee and Caritas Australia, we also gathered powerful evidence to show why this project should be rejected.

Woodside’s project disregards international efforts to limit global heating to 1.5C and has the potential to put livelihoods and food security at risk.

If this project goes ahead, it could have potentially devastating consequences for Senegal’s coastal communities––especially women who rely on the fishing industry to put food on the table. Women, who make up about half of the small-scale fisheries workforce in Senegal, already face pressures due to overfishing and climate change, which will only get worse if this project goes ahead.

But amazing ActionAid supporters like you are stopping this from happening!

By raising your voice, you helped put our export credit agency, a public body that provides government-backed loans to Australian companies, on alert. Export Finance Australia’s decision to ditch this project is a positive step forward towards the clean energy future we want to see.

But our work is far from done.

With your backing, we’ll continue to campaign for the Australian Government to end its support for all oil, gas and coal projects as well as keep the pressure on Australian companies overseas to keep fossil fuels in the ground.

Thank you for supporting us every step of the way.
