Brisbane Activist Workshop
Come along to take action on big brands and meet other ActionAid activists all from the comfort of your own couch!
When: 10am – 2pm AEST Saturday 9 October 2021
Where: Online via Zoom
Are you passionate about women’s rights, and ensuring that the women garment workers who make our clothes have decent working conditions? Do you want to stand in solidarity with women on the frontlines of global injustice?
Then come along to our online Brisbane group workshop! Learn all about ActionAid’s #SheWearstheCost campaign and how you can take action with a group of like-minded people to call on big fashion brands like Nike and the Just Group (owner of Just Jeans, Jay Jays, and Dotti) to step up their support to garment workers bearing the brunt of the COVID-19 pandemic.
We are coming to a critical moment in this campaign. Companies are holding important annual meetings, where they’ll want to impress their investors. With the spotlight on these companies, now’s the time to make our voices heard and push these companies to commit to labor rights within their supply chain.
Our training workshop is an opportunity for you to:
→ Connect with other likeminded activists within ActionAid Brisbane’s Activist Network
→ Learn about ActionAid Australia and our current campaign: #SheWearsTheCost
→ Gain valuable skills in movement building and the power of community organising
→ Brainstorm ideas to engage and inspire your local community to pressure big brands
Our campaign is powered by people like you. Your voice and contribution are powerful as we call upon Nike and Just Group to #RespectLabourRights and to #PayYourWorkers.
COVID-19 has escalated the exploitation of women in low-income nations within the garment industry. Women are paid poverty wages and endure poor working conditions. When brands cancel and refuse to pay for orders, or pressure factories for discounts, they push the financial costs of the pandemic onto women already living in poverty.
If you have the capacity to commit to supporting ActionAid Australia’s campaigns in your community for at least 2 hours a week, for a minimum of 6 months then please RSVP as soon as possible, as spots are limited.
Be sure to RSVP to receive the zoom link!
