About

In Vanuatu, women are well placed to be galvanising leaders in a crisis. When COVID-19 was declared a global health pandemic in March 2020, we supported local women to lead the response.

With limited health care resources, stopping the spread of COVID-19 was imperative. This meant undertaking wide-spread community awareness activities. ActionAid Australia has worked with ActionAid Vanuatu, with support from the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and the Vanuatu Ministry of Health, to mobilise local women’s networks to respond to the crisis.

Impact

The Ni-Vanuatu women have worked with the Vanuatu Ministry of Health to distribute vital health messages and undertook extensive community hygiene demonstrations. These activities have placed women as trusted community leaders during the pandemic.
