ActionAid condemns forced evacuation of Rafah.

07.05.24

Reacting to the news of the Israeli Forces’ evacuation order for 1.5 million displaced people in Rafah, an ActionAid spokesperson said:

“Forcing over a million displaced Palestinians from Rafah to evacuate without a safe destination is not only unlawful but would lead to catastrophic consequences.”

“Our aid workers are reporting some of the most severe conditions in recent memory with widespread disease, starvation and chaos. Let us be clear, there are no safe zones in Gaza.

“The international community must act swiftly to prevent further atrocities and hold themselves as well as the Israeli government to account – if an invasion of Rafah is your “red line” will you do everything possible to stop this imminent attack?”

Michelle Higelin, ActionAid Executive Director said:

“ActionAid Australia welcomes the Australian Foreign Minister raising the alarm over the prospect of an Israeli ground offensive into Rafah, where 1.5 million displaced people are currently sheltering,” said Ms Higelin

“The Australian Government must do everything in its power to join the international community in condemning this attack which will result in an unacceptable civilian death toll,” said Ms Higelin.
