Every degree deepens inequality.
Every climate action empowers women.

No matter where we live around the world, from Australia to Vanuatu to Kenya and beyond, we all want a secure future. But the data is crystal clear: with every degree of global warming, women are paying the biggest price. It’s women who lose their livelihoods. Women who lose access to food and clean water. Women who face increased violence.

The good news is that every climate action we take can help turn that tide. Millions of women around the world are already leading climate action in their communities despite all the odds, and we need to get behind them.

WOMEN-LED CLEAN ENERGY SOLUTIONS

The village of Lawital in Vanuatu once had no electricity, but women have transformed their community by installing off-grid solar systems into public space and every household in the village. The women have been trained to assemble and maintain the systems, and manage the long-term energy fund. This project has already led to reduced levels of violence against women, and more opportunities for women to sell their produce at the market.

WOMEN LEADING CLIMATE DISASTER RESPONSE

In the Philippines, women are leading emergency responses to typhoons and droughts, bringing targeted relief that meets the needs of women in affected communities. This includes food relief, dignity kits and livelihood support to 3300 people over the past year.

WOMEN LEADING CLIMATE RESILIENT FARMING

Ruth Matheka has felt the devastating impacts of climate change, as she struggled to grow crops in her community in Kenya. But after training in agroecology, she learnt how to adapt to changing climate conditions. She is now an empowered leader and trains other women in her community.

OUR FEMINIST CLIMATE JUSTICE AGENDA

ActionAid Australia's Feminist Climate Justice Agenda drives systems change for women and the climate, strengthens the power of women leading climate action, and builds resources for feminist climate solutions.
